Adventure Itinerary

Day 1:  Carnarvon

We meet at Carnarvon between 1pm – 2 pm

As soon as everyone has settled in and unpacked we jump right in and introduce our first photographic discussion.

Dinner will be at the homely Lord’s Kitchen.

Day 2: Carnarvon to Merweville

The first stretch of gravel takes us to Loxton, an authentic Karoo dorpie, with many iconic  sites along the way. From Loxton we meander through crevasses and cliffs, crossing streams and valleys towards Oukloof, where we enjoy a picnic lunch. Heading west towards Merweville and the setting sun we greet the day on a wide gravel road with spectacular scenery. We plan our trip to get camera ready for the most spectacular sun-set frame.

Merweville is small town, recently known as the setting for the TV series Boekklub. At Springbok Lodge we enjoy a hearty Karoo style farm cooked meal.

Day 3: Merweville to Sutherland

Today we head for the stars.  This fairly unknown track to Sutherland crosses the high peaks of the Roggeveld Mountains and offers many spectacular viewpoints that is sure to leave you breathless. We will stop often and take many photos. We reach Sutherland around lunch time and have the afternoon available to settle in and discuss our individual photo journeys. After dinner, oom Jurg will introduce us to the night skies and we have the opportunity to capture the stars.

Day 4: Sutherland to Tankwa-Karoo

We set off early to make the most of the immaculate early light conditions and the views on Oubergpas into the Tankwa.  Be sure to have your cameras charged and ready as this route towards the famous Tankwa-padstal affords many photo opportunities.

This evening we overnight close to the Tankwa-Karoo National Park and have another opportunity to cast our eyes on the night sky.

Day 5: Tankwa-Karoo

Today we are not driving, but focus exclusively on photography. We start the day by capturing the first rays and spent time answering questions and unpacking your photographic queries. The afternoon is spent at leisure.

Late afternoon we regroup and take our cameras on foot to explore the landscape and capture the Karoo close-up before enjoying a hearty dinner of Karootjops

Day 6: Tankwa-Karoo to Williston

By day-break we leave the beautiful Tankwa in search of more Karoo muse. Soon we climb one of the most spectacular passes, the Gannagapas  towards Middelpos. Here, at the old hotel, we are treated to a scrumptious lunch, local bokmelkkaas and many interesting stories. From Middelpos we drive along the back roads towards Williston, where we spend our last night together sharing more tricks of the trade whilst enjoying Karoo pizza at its best.

Day 7: Departure

We say our goodbyes and head home, inspired, cameras in hand.
